~ Grizzly Bear ~

Once traveling with a circus was an ugly grizzly bear
He hated all the world although he didn't have a care
He shook his head in anger at the crowd around his cage
And growled and roared as if he tried to tell them in his rage

[chorus] I long for the hills of freedom, I long for the mountain air
Could I wag my stubby tail once more in that rocky dale
I would be a happy bear

One day that bear escaped and quickly ran off too the hills
And then he romped and scampered happy in the rocks and rills
Until one day a sportsman came our story now is o'er
Excepting that the bear now decorates our parlor floor
[chorus]

Camp version - Senior waterfront:

We paddled o'er the lake although it was a cloudy day
The rain had threatened to come down but we went anyway
We steamed up to the carry though the waves were rolling high
And all at once the sun came out and dried us on our thighs

[chorus] We long for the muscles of the sternman, we long for the knees of the bow
Though we wrack our musty brains we've no reason to complain
We are senior waterfront

Through the summers we have paddled o'er the lakes and o'er the ponds
In spite of rain and carries, we will always carry on
We gunnel, swim and cook out meals and sleep beneath the stars
And someday I am certain that we'll paddle up to Mars.
[chorus]

Camp version - Mariners:

We sailed upon the lake although it was as smooth as glass
In spite of rain and calms we will have our sailing class
We sail to Indian Carry and on Sunday (charday) to Church Isle
No matter what the weather we will always have a smile

[chorus] We long for the pull of the tiller, we long for the strain of the sheet
Though we wrack our musty brains, we've no reason to complain
We are Mariners, from E.I.C.
